Crumpet’s Tri-Polish Challenge Day 4: Fan Brush Striped Nails

Here’s Day 4 of the Tri-Polish Challenge from Crumpet’s Nail Tarts, last day with this color set!

The basic rules are that you have to pick three polishes, one coral, one purple and one green, and then use those same polishes to create four different manis. You can also add in white, black, silver, gold and glitter toppers.

The three colors I chose are Sinful Colors Island Coral, Sinful Colors Amethyst and Julep Courteney; I used all three here for this fan brush striped nail art pattern. There’s a video tutorial here on fan brush striped nails from simplenailartdesigns  if you’d like to see how to do it.

I started with two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls for the white base, then dipped the tip of a fan brush into Sinful Colors Island Coral and spread it across the nail, first from one side toward the center, then from the other side toward the center. I followed that using the same technique to add stripes in Julep Courteney and then Sinful Colors Amethyst.

I repeated that color pattern several times to build up the layers, and then topped it off with one coat of Poshe fast-dry top coat.

I honestly wasn’t sure when to stop, and I can’t tell looking at the finished product whether I should have added more or already added too many (or if it’s good as is).

This was my first time using my fan brush, so will definitely try it again. I think I might like the design better with different colors.

I used two coats of Julep Courteney as the base and then used a striper brush to paint on triangles with Sinful Colors Amethyst, and then added white lines with Kiss Nail Art Paint striper polish in white.

Crumpet’s Tri-Polish Challenge Day 2: Cult Nails Fetish With Stripes

Here’s Day 2 of the Tri-Polish Challenge from Crumpet’s Nail Tarts.

The basic rules are that you have to pick three polishes, one coral, one purple and one green, and then use those same polishes to create four different manis. You can also add in white, black, silver, gold and glitter toppers.

Sinful Colors Island Coral, Amethyst, Juelp Courteney

The three colors I chose are Sinful Colors Island Coral, Sinful Colors Amythest and Julep Courteney, but for this mani I left out the purple one.

Cult Nails Fetish with Stripes

Cult Nails Fetish with Stripes

For the base I used two coats of Cult Nails Fetish, which is an unbelievably amazing polish that goes on super easy and dries to what the company describes as a “wax look finish.”

Cult Nails Fetish with Stripes

I then used some new striping brushes to add lines with Sinful Colors Island Coral first on the inside, and then Julep Courteney on the outside. I did not use a top coat because I wanted to keep the original finish on Cult Nails Fetish.

Cult Nails Fetish with Stripes

Admittedly the lines on this do not look very clean …this didn’t come out as well as I had hoped. But I hope you can still get the gist of what I was aiming for.

Crumpet’s Tri-Polish Challenge Day 1: Dotticure

I’m starting a new nail art challenge today. This is the Tri-Polish Challenge from Crumpet’s Nail Tarts.

The basic rules are that you have to pick three polishes, one coral, one purple and one green, and then use those same polishes to create four different manis. You can also add in white, black, silver, gold and glitter toppers.

Sinful Colors Island Coral, Amethyst, Juelp Courteney

The three colors I chose are Sinful Colors Island Coral, Sinful Colors Amethyst and Julep Courteney.

Tri-Polish Challenge: Dotticure

I went for a simple dotticure, starting with the base color, adding a white dot and then a smaller dot of the base color. The index finger white base is OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, the same white I used for the dots.

Nothing too crazy, just wanted to get back into the nail art game.

12 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Holiday Movie – Griswold Christmas Lights

Here we are at Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas nail art challenge. I’m running a little late with this one but it’s still Dec. 12 in at least a few U.S. time zones. Today’s prompt is Holiday Movie, and I’ve based this manicure on the over-decorated Griswold house from Christmas Vacation. (Please excuse the state of my cuticles!)

Christmas Vacation Griswold Lights

I started with three coats of Sinful Colors Slate. I used a Kiss Nail Artist pen in black to draw on the wires. Then I used a dotting tool to drop on the lights using OPI Designer De Better. I topped those dots with smaller dots of Enchanted Polish Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds to add a little holographic flair.

I then retraced the black wires to make sure they didn’t get lost under the dots. I finished everything off with a coat of Poshe fast-dry top coat.

12 Days Of Christmas Challenge: Christmas Trees

Today is the first day of the 12 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge sponsored by Pink & Polished Nails and Over Polished. The theme for today is Christmas Trees.

\Christmas Nail Art: Christmas Trees

I started with three coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, a grayish white creme. I then used tape to create a triangle on my ring finger and then filled it in with dots in various sizes. The red is Ulta Steppin Out, the green is Sinful Colors Exotic Green and the gold is Essence  A Piece Of Forever from the Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 collection. I used a silver Kiss Nail Art striper to add some tinsel. I outlined the sides of the tree with a green It’s So Easy Stripe Right striper and added a star-shaped rhinestone at the top. Everything is topped off with Poshe fast-try top coat.

The dots on the other nails are Ulta Steppin Out and Sinful Colors Exotic Green.

Pretty & Polished Island of Misfit Toys; Love Always, Candy Cain; and Pretty As A Peacock

This morning I’ve got three new shades from indie nail polish maker Pretty & Polished. All of these go on sale today, so feast your eyes and then high-tail it over to Chelsea’s Etsy shop (the restock is scheduled for 10amET today). I’m showing two holiday shades: Island of Misfit Toys and Love Always, Candy Cain, plus another new one called Pretty As A Peacock. Even though some of these are officially “holiday” colors, there’s nothing about them that would keep you from wearing them any time you want.

First up is Island of Misfit Toys, a fantastic multi-color glitter topper in a clear base. There’s too much stuff in here to really describe it all. Hexes, squares, bars … red, green, blue, purple, pink, silver, gold. Pretty! This one is my favorite of the three, and I think it’s easy to see why.

This is two coats of Island of Misfit Toys over three coats of Zoya Jolene, no top coat.

Next is Love Always, Candy Cain, another glitter topper in a clear base. This one has primarily red and white glitter in it, including large white and red hearts, as well as large white hex glitter. I did have a little trouble fishing out the larger pieces, especially the white hearts. There are a ton of them in there, I just couldn’t catch one!

This is two coats of Love Always, Candy Cain over two coats of Sinful Colors Exotic Green, for a classic Christmas look. It’s topped off with one coat of Poshe fast-dry top coat.

Finally I’ve got Pretty As A Peacock, which is kind of hard to describe. It’s got a gray-green shimmer base with purple, green and teal glitter. It’s not really glossy, more of a satin finish. Really lovely.

This is two coats of Pretty As A Peacock plus one coat of Poshe.

Hope you enjoyed these, they’re all really fun. Happy hunting!
