12 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge: Holiday Movie – Griswold Christmas Lights

Here we are at Day 5 of the 12 Days of Christmas nail art challenge. I’m running a little late with this one but it’s still Dec. 12 in at least a few U.S. time zones. Today’s prompt is Holiday Movie, and I’ve based this manicure on the over-decorated Griswold house from Christmas Vacation. (Please excuse the state of my cuticles!)

I started with three coats of Sinful Colors Slate. I used a Kiss Nail Artist pen in black to draw on the wires. Then I used a dotting tool to drop on the lights using OPI Designer De Better. I topped those dots with smaller dots of Enchanted Polish Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds to add a little holographic flair.

I then retraced the black wires to make sure they didn’t get lost under the dots. I finished everything off with a coat of Poshe fast-dry top coat.

Enchanted Polish Magic Mirror

Here’s a look at a lovely holographic polish from one of the indie polish makers that put holos on the map, Enchanted Polish.

This is Enchanted Polish Magic Mirror, a lavender holographic polish with some shy flakies in it. I’ve seen some photos where it does look gray or almost silver, more like a mirror as indicated by its name, but on the nail it is definitely in the purple family.

These shots are from the summer, in happy, sunny natural light, which really shows the holographic nature of this polish at its best.

Enchanted Polish Magic Mirror unfortunately is discontinued, but there are a few Enchanted Polish shades available now from Llarowe. Both Llarowe and Harlow and Co. are slated to get Enchanted Polish restocks within the next week or so.

30 Day Challenge Day 18 – Half Moons: Enchanted Polish Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

Day 18 of the 30 Day Challenge brings us to half moons. I had never done this style of manicure before. From what I gather, it’s a vintage style that was popular in the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s, so a real classic.

The simplest form is probably black and white, but I wanted to do something a little more snazzy, so I used the lovely Enchanted Polish Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, a silver/white holographic polish. This was an untried for me, for the 30 Days Of Untrieds I’m doing simultaneously.

I started with two coats of Enchanted Polish Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, followed by one coat of Poshe fast-dry top coat. Once it was dry, I used some hole reinforcer stickers that I got at Target to mask off the bottom part of my nails. They weren’t quite a perfect fit, but maybe I could have jiggered it a bit.

Once they were in place, I painted on two coats of Orly Liquid Vinyl, a black glossy creme. I then removed the stickers.

I added one coat of regular top coat to my ring finger and placed a large clear rhinestone on the tip of the nail for an accent, and then topped all of nails with another coat of Poshe.

Giveaway Shout-outs: Enchanted Polish and Peace, Love & Polish

Over the past few weeks I have been a very lucky Groupie, winning not one but TWO fantastic nail polish giveaways. I will have additional posts on these coming up, but wanted to at least get some public thank yous out to these ladies here on the blog. These aren’t the greatest photos — really I just took them to show my sister my spoils — but wanted to make sure I had some images here.

Last month I won a giveaway from indie polish maker Enchanted Polish, my first-ever win! What a great one to start out with. I received the lovely Penny Lane. Is it pink? Is it copper? For me it’s somewhere in between, but it’s 100 percent holo, and very, very pretty.

Then at the end of July I was one of two winners of a giveaway from Peace, Love & Polish, which was a collection of 26 polishes left over from her blog sale. Not sure how she parted with some of these, some real beauties. You can get some sense for the massiveness of this haul from the photo. I wish I had photographed everything before I unpacked them … she took such care wrapping up each one, must have taken forever.

Enchanted Polish Tragedy!

It was a happy day at the Polish Groupie house, for about 15 minutes. Then, it became a dark day indeed. Waiting for me in the mailbox was a happy little parcel from Enchanted Polish, containing the three completely awesome holo polishes I snagged during Chelsea’s last restock on Etsy. I got Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, Magic Mirror and Cranberry Cosmo (the one that was an early front runner for new favorite bestest-ever color).

Then came the error in judgement that will haunt me until I somehow manage to procure another bottle: I let The Toddler play with the bottles, and before I even knew what happened he had somehow managed to break the bottle of Cranberry Cosmo.

Luckily he was not injured, so that’s the main thing. But the polish spilled all over my hardwood floor (and onto his little fingers and toes, so he managed to track a bit of it from living room into the kitchen and even smear it on some cabinets before I could get everything cleaned up). Thank goodness my mother is visiting or I would never have been able to manage. As it was, I soaked up as much as I could with paper towels while she cleaned him up, and then I had to make a trip to buy some non-acetone polish remover to use on the floors (acetone would have eaten away the finish).

So I lost the bottle and had a craptastic time cleaning up as well. Dark day indeed.
