Zoya Lotus With Pahlish Your Silver Lining

I recently nabbed a new indie, Pahlish’s Your Silver Lining, and have been dying to try it out. I bought it earlier this month at the end of a crap day not only because I liked it very much but also because I took some higher meaning from the name since I was at that very moment trying to find some silver lining in the midst of a bad situation. It felt like kismet.

Your Silver Lining is a shimmery, sheer, milky white polish with small holographic hex, square and bar glitter.

I paired it with another new-to-me shade, Lotus, from Zoya’s True Spring 2012 collection. Zoya describes it as a “dusty blue-toned amethyst purple with colorful shimmer that reflects pink, red and gold.” I’d say that’s a dead-on description.

The application on Zoya Lotus started out nice, but I swear that it got goopier as I went along, so it was a little challenging for me. This was a brand new bottle, first use. Still, I love this color; it has a lot of depth to it and isn’t a bright in-your-face purple.
Here’s Zoya Lotus by itself, two coats plus a top coat:

Your Silver Lining is a great shade for layering, but it did take a few tries to figure out how much I needed on the brush for optimal application. I had to fish around and dab to find and place the glitter where I wanted. As a result I ended up with much thicker coats than I intended on some nails, but I got better at it. You can see that my ring finger looks milkier than my middle finger.

The (male) trainer at my gym described this manicure as “whimsical but elegant.” I thought that was pretty funny, but I think it is an apt description.

Here’s Zoya Lotus  with one coat of Pahlish Your Silver Lining on top plus top coat:

Pahlish is scheduled to launch today at Llarowe at 3pmET and again at 9pmET, so you might be able to grab Your Silver Lining there. Pahlish also has a shop on Etsy.

What nail polishes have you purchased recently more because of the name than the color?

Recent Haul

Sorry for the long absence, life got in the way! Rest assured, just because I wasn’t blogging about nail polish doesn’t mean I wasn’t buying nail polish. Here’s a quick look at a recent haul, meaning you can expect a closer look at several of these soon.

A collection of nail polishes from Revlon, Essie and others

From left to right:

Essie Matte About You: a mattifying top coat that I’m very eager to try out over a glitter polish. I’ve seen that on several blogs and really love the look, especially over a black base.

Revlon Whimsical: probably best known as a dupe of Deborah Lippmann’s Glitter In The Air, it’s a fun shade for summer, very light and soothing.

Lush Lemony Flutter: I’ve seen rave reviews of this cuticle butter on several of my favorite blogs, so I wanted to give it a whirl.

Revlon Fashionista: an intriguing blue, which I thought might pair well with Whimsical.

Aphrodite Lacquers RumRunner: Rebecca is now making waves in the indie polish world with her new Evil Indie Polish Queen line, but this one is from her earlier SandBar collection, which is still available on Etsy.

Essie Set In Stones: from Essie’s luxeffects top coat collection, this one is described by the company as “disco mirror ball chaos.” Yes, please!

Enchanted Polish Tragedy!

It was a happy day at the Polish Groupie house, for about 15 minutes. Then, it became a dark day indeed. Waiting for me in the mailbox was a happy little parcel from Enchanted Polish, containing the three completely awesome holo polishes I snagged during Chelsea’s last restock on Etsy. I got Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds, Magic Mirror and Cranberry Cosmo (the one that was an early front runner for new favorite bestest-ever color).

Then came the error in judgement that will haunt me until I somehow manage to procure another bottle: I let The Toddler play with the bottles, and before I even knew what happened he had somehow managed to break the bottle of Cranberry Cosmo.

Luckily he was not injured, so that’s the main thing. But the polish spilled all over my hardwood floor (and onto his little fingers and toes, so he managed to track a bit of it from living room into the kitchen and even smear it on some cabinets before I could get everything cleaned up). Thank goodness my mother is visiting or I would never have been able to manage. As it was, I soaked up as much as I could with paper towels while she cleaned him up, and then I had to make a trip to buy some non-acetone polish remover to use on the floors (acetone would have eaten away the finish).

So I lost the bottle and had a craptastic time cleaning up as well. Dark day indeed.

Here’s a look at my sad little Cranberry Cosmo in the trash. 😦

NOTD: Sneeze Breeze Tips

I was dying to try out The Hungry Asian’s Sneeze Breeze and knew I wanted something simple that would really show it off and let it shine in all its glittery glory. I was inspired by this Black Ice New Year’s Eve nail art from Polish and Pearls, but in the end I chickened out and ended up with something much more basic. This is two coats of Orly Black Vinyl with two coats of Sneeze Breeze on the tips, plus one coat of Poshe.
